Traveling to Costa Rica
Ranchitos Las Cotingas is located in Drake Bay, on the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica.  
International flights arrive in San Jose, the capital and largest city in the country.   

A number of major airlines provide daily service from the United States and Europe.  Roundtrip
airfares from the United States are generally in the range from $500 to $1000.
Traveling to Drake Bay
There are no paved roads into Agujitas.  
The area can be reached by bus during
the dry season, but  generally the easiest
way to get here is  using the scheduled air
service from San Jose.  

The two airlines serving the area, Nature
Air and Sansa,  offer several daily flights to
Drake Bay.  
Nature Air flights depart from
Pavas Airport in San Jose, which is about
35 minutes by shuttle from the  
International Airport and about 20 minutes
from downtown hotels.

depart from the International Airport.


You can also go by road to Sierpe and
connect by boat  to Drake Bay.  Palmar
Norte is on the main highway and has
scheduled bus service from San Jose.
Flying to Drake Bay
If you choose to get here by airplane, you
will be arrive at a small airport located
several miles to the north of town.   

A four wheel drive vehicle will shuttle you
from the Drake Bay airport to Ranchitos
Las Cotingas.

Total travel time from Pavas in San Jose
to Las Cotingas is a little over an hour.
Boat Connections
Via the Rio Sierpe
You can also get to Las
Cotingas easily using boat
connections along the Rio
Sierpe.  The Inter American
Highway travels through Palmar
Norte and scheduled bus
service is available to get there.

It is a short taxi ride from Palmar
to Sierpe and a boat shuttle can
be arranged to bring you down
river and across Drake Bay.

The boat ride lasts about an
hour and provides  wonderful
views of the mangrove delta
along the river.
